Give 'Em all a Little Shot of Matcha
It seems like matcha is everywhere these days. And, unlike most trends, this one is one that you really should start flipping into your daily routine. This is one of the easiest flips you can do for your health.
Why Should You Flip Matcha into Your Daily Morning Routine?
It's Incredibly Easy to Make
Once you have your basic matcha supplies, making matcha is a snap, which is great since, if you are anything like me, mornings can be a disorienting experience, and we all need that little matcha-zip as soon as possible!
The first thing you need to make matcha is, of course the matcha powder itself. There are several grades of matcha, and the best grade is ceremonial grade, which is the highest-quality green tea powder. This is the good stuff. The stuff you want. The stuff you need. This is not only because it is superior in color and flavor, but more beneficial to your health.
I love to automate as much as I can in my life, so I have my matcha sent directly to me on autopilot, aka a subscription. Remember, anything you can automate in your life is one of the easiest flips you can do to making your life more streamlined. You know those cat memes that say, "If I fits, I sits," my meme should say, "If it ships, I gets."
Next, you'll need a bowl, a scoop, and a whisk. These don't need to be fancy, but be sure that the whisk and spoon are made of bamboo. You can get a kit at encha.com, or grab an inexpensive starter kit like this one, which comes with the handy whisk stand.
Once you have all your materials, you are ready to get matcha-making. It literally takes me about 40 seconds to make my morning matcha. I get basically do it with my eyes closed, which is fabulous since my eyes are usually half-closed, pre-caffine (I know I'm not the only one!)
All you do is dump one leveled scoop of matcha powder into the bowl, add hot or cold water and whisk it up to create an emulsion. You have to really whisk it, a-whisk-it-good, because the matcha powder does not dissolve into the water, so, if you don't wish it really well, or if you wait to long to drink it, the matcha powder will settle to the bottom. And trust me, you don't want to drink weak matcha water with a chaser of chunky matcha powder. Been there. Done that.
Now drink it!
I swig it back like I'm taking a shot. But some people prefer to sip it. However, we've already discussed that whole emulsion/sediment thing, so personally, I wouldn't risk it.

If you need caffeine to function, but coffee gives you the jitters, or upsets your stomach and acid levels, then I have the caffeine fix for you! Matcha, like any green tea, is caffeinated, and gives you a nice jolt of energy. There's a reason why Japanese monks started this whole craze centuries ago. Now, that's a food craze with some staying power, unlike a certain Unicorn Frappe I know.
